Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Leaves Seattle for Miami
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is leaving cloudy Seattle for sunny Miami.
The billionaire tech executive revealed in an Instagram post that he will be relocating from Seattle, Washington, where he founded and built Amazon, and moving to Miami, Florida.
“I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here,” Bezos wrote in the post. “As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart.”
He elaborated that his parents recently moved back to the Miami area (Bezos grew up in the city and attended high school there before moving to the pacific northwest).
“I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami,” he said, referencing his fiancee Lauren Sanchez.
He also added that his rocket company Blue Origin is also increasing its operations at Cape Canaveral, which is a couple hundred miles north of Miami.
Bloomberg reported last month that Bezos acquired a pair of neighboring mansions in the Indian Creek section of Miami for about $150 million. He also has homes in Washington D.C., New York City, and a ranch in west Texas.
Bezos stepped down as CEO of Amazon in 2021, handing the reins to a top deputy, Andy Jassy. He continues to work as executive chairman of the tech giant.
