Florida Reaches New Heights as the 2nd Best State to Live in 2024
Florida has claimed the title of the second-best state to live in the United States for 2024, according to a fresh analysis by WalletHub. While locals might not be surprised by this recognition, the official ranking affirms Florida’s reputation as an attractive place to call home.
WalletHub evaluates U.S. states based on multiple factors, including employment, education, public safety, and cost of living. For 2024, WalletHub’s comprehensive study analyzed 51 different criteria across all 50 states. Florida secured the second spot, with Massachusetts taking the top position.
So, what exactly makes Florida a desirable state for living?
The state enjoys an unemployment rate of just 2.9%, one of the lowest nationwide, and ranks sixth in job opportunities per capita.
Florida’s tax rates are among the lowest in the country, placing it seventh in this category, while it also ranks sixth for median household income growth.
Florida is abundant in leisure activities, from sunny beaches and vibrant dining scenes to a wealth of parks and theaters.
It also ranks well in safety, with the ninth-highest number of law enforcement personnel per capita, a 13th-place ranking in violent crime reduction, and the 15th-lowest rate of property crimes.
However, Florida faces a significant gap in Education & Health, where it ranks 24th—considerably lower than Massachusetts, which leads in this category. Improving in these areas could be Florida's key to topping the rankings in the future.
Interestingly, New Jersey rounds out the top three, offering strong education and healthcare metrics. However, its overall economic performance lags, ranking 25th in that category. Here's a closer look at the top 10 states ranked by WalletHub for 2024:
